Citizenship in Schools

Citizenship in schools – so much more than just a GCSE ! What makes the Citizenship approach so wide ranging and useful in all its aspects was the subject of the latest round of What’s All the Fuss....?

Expert Richard Demby led a persuasive session in which participants argued about what actually constitutes Citizenship, where we can find it and how it can nurture a whole range of attributes in young people. Citizenship projects can cover the whole range of community events  from environmental awareness to community cohesion, helping young people to build emotional strength and support for each other in school and in the wider community.

We looked at whether citizenship without activism is ever meaningful idea and how the spontaneous movements that arise from young people’s passion about causes can become genuine forces for change. An inspiring and thought-provoking session, our Lancashire event was hosted by Woodfield Nursery School whose own current Creative Partnership project involves children, parents and community in understanding themselves and each other using avatars, dollshouses and film!

All documentation from the session will soon be uploaded onto the 'What's all the Fuss About' miniblog.
